How are CBS Tags being used in your organization?

I'm curious how others are utilizing CBS tags. What are the org. level tags you've set up  vs. the project-level tags? By org. level, I'm referring to the CBS Tags 9, 11, 12 & 20 where the field values are defined at the parent level for all projects to use vs. the rest of the tags that share the same field name but define the field values at the project level.

We have only a few that are being used consistently, so I'd like to know which tag labels are producing the most value either from a project management viewpoint or from a reporting and analytics one.

Some of the things I've used the Org level tags for are KPI, portions of cost codes at specified level or the description of account codes, key quantity UoM/type, Pay item type to have visibility in the CBS.

Tag 7 is one that keeps cropping up in reports; it is in Earned values, and Qty claiming history, but also likely others.  Crew performance report uses Tag 2.  Manhour curves uses Tag 17.  Qty Claiming history also uses Tag 2, Tag 16, and UDF2.  This is a list from several years ago, so possible that it is out of date, and highly likely incomplete.

Knowing what the tags legacy functions are, as per the info that Dwayne provided, gives a good way to line things up so that the same tag field is used in the same way and would be more likely to land where you want it to in reports.

Related to this, I have found that some of the reports in the REPORTS module use these tags in very specific ways, and even in the backend (APIs) these tags can have different names. I expect this is all legacy Kiewit stuff.  It would good if InEight could provide a list of all the REPORTS that use the legacy tag / udf names for specific purposes (report grouping, sorting, filtering).  We have created custom label names for a few of the tags in suite admin, only to find out later that a particular InEight report calls the tag something else.  There is a legacy field name mapping document in the knowledge library if that's helpful to anyone.

From my experience, CBS tags work best as a way to classify and group CBS items. We mainly use them when awarding procurement packages so we can easily identify which items belong to which subcontractor. We also use tags to flag responsibility, which is really helpful during meetings when we need to filter items by the responsible person. This has been the most practical value for both reporting and day‑to‑day project management
