As this topic comes up on projects, I find it's rarely handled the exact same way.
As drawings move from concept and design development through tender and construction, drawing numbers are often still evolving. Drawings get split, combined, renumbered, and reissued. Then addendums come along and add another layer of complexity.
Some teams version everything on a single drawing record. Others keep design, tender, addendum, and construction drawings separate. I've seen both approaches work, but they each come with trade-offs.
What I find particularly challenging is balancing:
- Design history and revision control
- Tender addendum traceability
- A clean, usable drawing register for the construction team
For example, if a drawing is revised through multiple addendums during tender, how do you preserve a clear record of:
- What was included in each addendum?
- What information bidders had at a specific point in time?
- When a drawing should be a new revision versus a new record?
And once you've settled on that strategy, how do you translate it into the way drawings are managed in InEight Document?
If a bidder asked six months later what drawing package was in effect when they submitted their price, could you reconstruct it quickly and confidently?
I'd be interested to hear how others approach this and what has worked well for your teams.
