There are advantages to both On-Premise and Cloud configurations for InEight Estimate. What’s your companies preference—and why?
Tomas, Cloud definitely adds a level of getting things into the same playing field. One area with Cloud that has been a struggle which required B&V to change how we do development is the upgrade cadence on a test versus production environment. They both leap frog on timing of up grade, but about every three months or so, you end up being out of sync between a non-production environment and production. This may not be a show stopper a year or two after adoption, but it while we are getting things up and running. The issue would be that the non-production environment would be on a newer version than production. Therefore you can NOT migrate data by doing a normal import of an archived job.
Another area in CLOUD you can't copy the library from one environment to another. This is a struggle that i am told does not exist in the On-Premise environment.
I like that Cloud works straight out of the box. Sure, it has a client, but what an impressive client! (I wish they had a Control client that was as good at handling large projects.) While I miss some import options from the on-premises version, these limitations are minor and definitely outweighed by Cloud's Primavera and scheduling support
We implemented on premise right as they were working on rolling out SaaS. We have recently had conversations about making the transition, however, due to how we are building our estimates by using the workbook, it doesn't seem like it would be advantageous for us to make the switch now. What has started our conversation on the switch that could potentially outweigh our fear of the excel workbook process not working is the integration with the schedule module. This could just be the thing that makes us convert!
Brittany, Thank you for the insight. I can speak of the on-premise piece but several of my coworkers can. One thing that is different from the two is the workbook and how it reacts. The Cloud version has an excel like product, lets just say, we have exploited many issues and communicated with the Dev team on solutions and what now. I look forward to the cloud capabilities to use a companies O365 license to return some of the functionality that would make life simpler for sure.
Hi Tim!
Yes, that is what I heard from an InEight CSM as well on the excel like product. That one makes us a tad nervous! But we are excited for what InEight has on the roadmap for Estimate SaaS.
